Yorkshire Premiere for ‘A Passionate Woman’

The absence of one of its leading stars could not dull the excitement at the screening of a new BBC drama in Leeds, written by the city’s own Kay Mellor.

While Billie Piper was unable to attend, a host of others attended the screening of A Passionate Woman, which also stars Royle Family actress Sue Johnston, and Alun Armstrong, at the Hyde Park Picture House, in Leeds. It will be shown on BBC1 later this year. The drama, an adaptation of Mellor’s play which was a worldwide hit, focuses on a mother’s affair in the 1950s and the consequences of that affair 30 years on.

The drama was filmed on location in West Yorkshire last year and is very much a personal journey for Kay Mellor, as it was inspired by her late mother Dinah.

The two-part TV adaptation for BBC One will be screened next month.

Motherhood ‘tough and testing’ for Piper

Former Doctor Who star Billie Piper says she finds motherhood both “beautiful and brilliant” and “tough and testing”, but she still wants to have another baby.

The Diary Of A Call Girl star – mother to 16-month-old son Winston with actor husband Laurence Fox – said coming from a big family made her want brothers and sisters for her son.

She said: “Both of us are from really big families – Laurence is one of five, I’m one of four, so it’s just madness and hysteria all the time. It’s quite a nice healthy combination of boys and girls, it’s nice coming from a big family, but I’m not sure if I could go for the four, certainly not the five.”

And her difficult 26-hour labour, followed by an emergency Caesarean section with Winston has not put her off.

Doctor Who Duo to Reunite

Doctor Who stars David Tennant and Billie Piper are set to reunite. The pair – who played the Time Lord and his assistant Rose Tyler in the BBC shoe – are currently in talks to star in thriller film ‘Love On The Murder Mile’, which will be directed by Billie’s husband Laurence Fox.

According to Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye, ‘The Office’ actor Mackenzie Crook and Welsh-born star Matthew Rhys are also working on the movie.

Matthew – who stars in US drama series ‘Brothers and Sisters’ – will shoot his scenes for the movie while on his summer break from the show.

Robin Fox, Laurence’s brother and producer on the film, has admitted negotiations are still on-going with the cast and not every actor was currently contracted.
